Abdul Rasheed Bello, aka JJC London-based Nigerian songwriter, singer and music producer, Abdul Rasheed Bello, aka JJC
He was born in Kano, Nigeria, and later moved to England at the age of 14. While there, he formed the group known as Big Brovaz and he also doubled as the producer of the group. The group achieved number 3 spot in the UK charts with the song, Nu Flow and number 2 with Favourite Things. He joined forces with other Nigerian acts in the UK later on, and that gave birth to the group known as JJC & 419 Squad. In 2003, the group released their album entitled Atide ( which in Yoruba means “We have arrived”) which was independently marketed, promoted and distributed by Backbone Music. And despite the lack of backing by a major label or distributor, the strength of the music and its originality resulted in huge achievements and critical acclaim. While some of the tracks contained traditional African elements, the album went far beyond what is usually described as World music. We are Africans' is a movement that is mainly spread to Africans in Europe and America who feel cut out from their roots. It's a movement that gives you self belonging. Africa is the future of the world and the movement is trying to promote all of that and other salient issues. "We Are Africans" is an anthem - in fact it could be labelled as the national anthem for the United States of Africa, a concept which signifies the fortification, unification and reinvention of Africa and Africans across the world. "A lot of Africans in America and Europe feel they are no longer Africans because of the fact that they have American and British visas. That should not be so. The truth is that, as long as you have black skin and as long as your roots can be traced to this part of the world, you are an African. We should be proud to be Africans and we should encourage other nationals that have lost hope in Africa to believe that a bright future awaits Africans". JJC has never stopped and Mr. Skillz has never stopped too. He is what you call 2 in 1. In London, JJC is referred to as Mr. Skillz; Engaged in pop music for record companies like Sony Universal and other outfits. A producer and songwriter for numerous artistes in the UK. In the Big Brovas, his old group he was known as Mr. Skillz. Regardless of all of that, he has always been calling himself JJC and he created the group known as 419 Squad. Always been representing Nigerian music despite the fact that he is a music producer in UK . "I cannot forget my roots and that is why I am representing with the name JJC which I took a little break off. But now I am back and ready to do what I know best". |
